Very good fishing today in Ludington. We set up in the 59’s in 85 fow and trolled north. We got off to a slow start hitting just 2 fish in the first half hour. When we hit the 00’s we were in 160 fow and the action picked up. We had a pair of regular size Fuzzy Bear Yellow Tail spoons on an out down set at 65 ft. that took a Steelhead and a King and a pair of regular Dreamweaver Lemon Lime Spoons down 55 on the other out down that were good early. Our low wire divers were set at 85 & 90 ft and the highs were 200 & 150 back. Our two hottest rods were the low wire out 85 with a 10 ” Show Time Spin Doctor/Blue Moo Big Water Meat Rig and the high wire out 200 with an 8″ Show Time Spin Doctor/Blue Moo Big Water Meat Rig. Those 2 rods accounted for a good third of our bites. We had another 8″ Show Time/Blue Moo on a 350 copper and it took a couple of fish. We heard the boats in on the Bank were hitting fish, but we had just enough action to keep us out in deeper water. We took fish on 7, 8, & 10 color cores and 250, 350 & 450 coppers. A 10 color with a Captains Choice Natural Glow Cut Plug took 2 nice Kings. A 7 color core with a Fuzzy Bear Frozen Veggie took the Brown Trout pictured right. We never got north of the Point. It seemed like our best was between the 01’s & 03’s in 140 to 180 fow.

We ran a 2 boat charter today with Lie-A-Lot Charters. We fished up north setting up in 120 fow. We hit a couple fish right away, 1 on our chute rigger down 65 with an 11″ White Dreamweaver Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly and the other on a low wire diver out 85 with a 10″ Dark Green Spin Doctor/Green Mile Big Water Meat Rig. We rode for a while before we hit our next fish. It came on glow spoon on a 10 color core. We worked out as far as 180 ft. and in to 80 ft. Our best depth seemed to be between 110 & 130 fow. The surface temp was 62.9 and it was 40 degrees down 50 ft. The only rigger action we had was on our chute. We had a few wire diver bites and had hits on 7, 8, & 10 color cores. A regular size Fuzzy Bear Frozen Veggie on a 250 copper took 2 Kings. We had 18 bites and boated 9 fish, 8 Kings & 1 Steelhead.
Wow, what a weekend. We fished out of Manistee on Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday competing in the Budweiser Pro/Am. The weather was great and the fishing very good. We fished pretty much straight out for the Ladies Classic on Friday. We had lots of bites and our Ladies did a great job fighting and netting the fish. We ended up in 1st place and also caught the biggest fish, a 17.6 lb. King. That King took an 8″ Show Time Spin Doctor/Blue Moo Big Water Meat Rig on a 400 copper. We fished the same water on Saturday. After the weigh in on Saturday we were in 5th place, 17 points out of 1st. We fished basically the same water, but set up in 80 fow in the 14’s and trolled nw. It started out slow, but was fairly steady all day. We boated 17 Kings but didn’t have a big one, nothing over 15 lbs. We didn’t think our catch was heavy enough to win, but we felt we would be in the top 5. It turned out that all the boats ahead of us couldn’t match their Saturday catches and dropped in the standings. When the weighing was done we ended up in 2nd place. Ludington boat “Hambone” edged us out by 0.2 lbs. Close, but no cigar! We ran a lot of stuff over the weekend. I would say our best set up was a 10″ Black Crush Spin Doctor/Moo Moo Big water meat rig 75 ft. down on an out down. All in all it was a fun tournament and we plan on returning next year. We have a charter tomorrow and will post a Ludington report in the evening.
Fished the boat up to Manistee this morning. We will be fishing in the Ladies Pro/Am on Friday and the Budweiser Pro/Am on Saturday & Sunday. We set up in the 02’s in 140 fow water and trolled north. The wind was blowing hard out of the southwest so it was hard to get our speed where we like it – 1.9 to 2.3 at the ball on our Fish Hawk. We set our out downs at 55 & 65 feet and put the chute down 100. The water was really warm, 60 degrees on the surface and 59.6 down 100 feet. Before we could make any adjustments both out downs went and then the chute rigger. All our fish today came in 59 degree water. We trolled from the 02’s to the 16’s working between 100 & 250 fow. Our chute rigger with a 10″ White Crush Glow Blade Spin Doctor/Green Mirage Strong Fly was our best rigger. Our wire divers were good. We had a 10″ Mountain Dew Spin Doctor/Cold Steel Big Water Meat Rig on one high and a 10″ Blue Chrome NBK Spin Doctor/Blue Thunder Big Water Rig on the other. We ran a 10″ Show Time Spin Doctor/Blue Moo Big Water Rig and a 10″ Dark Green Spin Doctor/Green Mile Meat on our lows. We were using Erie Dearie Herring strips on our meat rigs. Very few bites on our copper & cores. We took 2 Steelhead on 10 color cores and a King on a 450 copper. The action was never hot, we just picked away at them all morning.
We had a strong early bite this morning. Couldn’t get any cores or coppers out the first hour, then things slowed right down. Riggers set at 45, 55 & 65 were hot and our wire divers with 10″ Spin Doctors and meat rigs baited with Erie Dearie Herring Strips were going good. We were running the same rigs as yesterday and had the highs out 170 & 180 and the lows out 80 & 90. We had a pair of Super Slim Beefeaters down 45 on one out down and a pair of glow spoons down 55 on the other out down. We had a 10″ White Crush Glow Blade Spin Doctor/Green Mirage Strong Fly down 65 on the chute rigger. After the morning flurry we took some fish on a 10 color core with a Yeck Copperhead, a 200 copper with an SS Beefeater and a 250 copper with a regular size Fuzzy Bear Frozen Veggie. We spent most of the morning trolling between the middle of the 59’s and the low 01’s in 90 to 120 fow.
We are experiencing some very good fishing so far this month in Ludington. Today’s catch was made up of 2 Steelhead, 3 Lake Trout, and 16 Kings. We didn’t have much of a early bite, 3 bites 2 fish, but it was steady all morning. The first couple of hours we were taking most of the fish on spoons. After 8:00 a.m. our wire divers with 10″ Spin Doctors and meat rigs baited with Erie Dearie Herring Strips took off. A 10″ Mountain Dew Spin Doctor/Cold Steel Big Water Meat Rig out 180 on a high wire was our top diver set up. Our other high wire was a 10″ Blue NBK Spin Doctor/Blue Thunder Big Water Meat Rig out 170 and it went several times. Our low wires were a 10″ Show Time Spin Doctor/Blue Moo Big Water Rig & a 10″ Dark Green Spin Doctor/Green Mile Meat Rig. Our top copper was a 200 with an Super Slim Beefeater. We also took fish on 8 & 10 color cores and 250 coppers with spoons. All our action on the riggers came on spoons – DW Beefeaters, Fuzzy Bear Flea For All’s were the best. We fished north from the high 01’s to the 05’s between 90 & 130 fow.
Fishing was good today off the Bank north of Ludington. We caught a mixed bag consisting of 2 Coho, 2 Lake Trout, 1 Steelhead and 7 Kings. Our biggest King was an 18 pounder. We set up in 110 fow in the low 01’s and trolled north to the 04’s before we turned back south, working between 100 & 135 fow. We marked good fish and bait in 130 feet, but took most of our fish in 110. It was a spoon bite for us. We only had 3 meat bites and they were all on a 10″ Mountain Dew Spin Doctor/Cold Steel Meat Rig out 180 on a high wire diver. A Super Slim Beefeater on a 200 copper took 2 fish. A 350 copper with a Yeck 55 Lighting spoon went twice. We got 1 and lost 1. A glow Bloody Nose spoon with black dots on an 8 color core took the 18 pounder. The Steelhead came on a 5 color core with a Super Slim Steelie Stomper. Our big White Paddle that has been real good for us on our chute rigger never took a hit, but a regular size Dreamweaver EVM spoon stacked 10 feet above it took a nice King. Our chute was 95 down when the King hit. We took 4 fish on our out downs rigged with spoons, 2 at 65 ft., 1 at 45, & 1 at 75 feet. A regular Fuzzy Bear Frozen Veggie on a 12 color core went twice but we didn’t get either one.
We ran a two boat group charter today with the Dreamweaver. The fishing was good. We got an early start leaving the dock at 5:00 a.m. We set up north off the Bank in 130 fow. The fish were biting right away. We went 4 for 5 while we were setting lines. A pair of Dreamweaver Beefeaters down 58 ft. on an out down took our first and third fish. A 11″ White Dreamweaver Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly 100 down on the chute went and we landed a nice King on that rig. The other out down set at 70 with a pair of glow spoons went twice and we got 1 and missed 1. The morning bite was over fairly quickly. Then we just picked away the rest of the trip. Our hot rod was a 250 copper with a regular size Fuzzy Bear Frozen Veggie. It went 4 times. Our high wire divers were productive. A 10″ Mountain Dew Spin Doctor/Cold Steel Big Water Meat Rig out 220 took a couple fish and a 10″ Blue Chrome NBK Spin Doctor/Blue Thunder Big Water Meat Rig out 200 took 3 fish. We took 1 and broke 1 off on 10″ White Crush Spin Doctor/Froggie Big Water Meat Rig out 160 on a low wire diver. We took a Steelhead on a 5 color core with a Yeck Fire Ball. We had our big Paddle on the chute rigger stacked with a regular size Fuzzy Bear Ally Cat and that went twice and the Paddle went a couple more times. We fished mostly between 120 & 160 fow between the 01’s & 05’s. The fish count was pretty even between both boats but we did beat them by 2 fish. Dreamweaver caught the big one weighing 16.5 lbs., beating us out by 6 onces.
Tough fishing today. We fished up north off the Bank. There was a big pocket of cold water between the 59’s & 02’s. The surface temp got as cold a 42 degrees. It started warming once we got into the 02’s and we set up in 180 fow. The surface temp was 47.8. We hit our first fish on a 8 color core with a glow bloody nose spoon. We were in the 03’s in 100 fow. It was a Steelhead. We hit another one on the same rig but it got off. Then we boat rode for a while. It was hard to get a good troll. It seemed like the waves were coming from three different directions. We never marked a lot of fish but we quit marking anything in the high 04’s so we turned back south. We made an out troll once we got past the point. We boated a nice King on the out on a 11″ White Dreameaver Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly 100′ down on the chute rigger. The surface temp warmed to 50 degrees in 210 fow. We turned and trolled NE. We missed a fish on a 12 color with a Mag SOG Dreamweaver Spoon and took one on a 10 color with a Fuzzy Bear Frozen Veggie. The wind switched NW and the Lake calmed down. We trolled back north when we hit 140 fow and hit 3 fish on that north troll. We missed one on a high wire out 220 on a 10″ Mountain Dew Spin Doctor/Cold Steel Big Water Meat Rig and took a King on a 10″ Blue NBK Spin Doctor/Blue Thunder Big Water Rig out 200 on the other high wire. Our chute rigger down 100 with the Paddle/Pickled Sunshine took the King Pictured above. The 8 color took one more Steelhead. We lost a nice King right behind the boat on a 10″ White Slick Spin Doctor/Froggie Big Water Meat Rig down 85 on an out down.
Fished up north yesterday on the Bank with a friend and we did real well, lots of bait & fish between 90 & 120 fow so we headed back up there this morning. We got a little late start leaving the dock at 6:30. The temp was 50 degrees top to bottom up there yesterday. Today, after the north wind blowing all night, it was 48 on the surface and 39.9 down 90 feet. We set up in 110 fow in the low 01’s and trolled north working between 90 & 110 fow. The bait and fish that were so plentiful yesterday were gone. We didn’t get our first bite until we were in the 02’s. It was a small Laker on a 11″ White Dreamweaver Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly 75 down on the chute. We hate to throw back the first fish of the day but it was only 18 inches long and had to go back. We hit a nice King 55 down on an out down with a Yeck Wart Frog, but it got away. We started marking some bait & fish in the high 02’s and the action picked up. A 5 color core with a glow spoon took a king and a 3 color core with a Dreamweaver SS Steelie Stomper took a Steelhead. Both our high wire divers went. We took a King on a 10″ Mountain Dew/Cold Steel Big Water Meat Rig out 170 and a Laker on the same flasher with a Cold Steel Dreameaver Cut Bait Rig out 155′. Those were the only 2 bites we had on our divers. Our best action was between the 03’s & 04’s. We didn’t hit any fish in the 05’s so we turned back south. No bites on the south troll until the 02’s when our chute rigger with the White Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly down 75 took another King. We were going to turn back north but hit a fish on the turn and ended up on an out troll. We trolled west to 220 fow and hit 3 more fish on that troll. We didn’t hit any fish on the in troll. We made another out troll and took our biggest fish of the day, an 18.5 lb. King on the chute rigger. Once again the Paddle/Pickled Sunshine combo was our best rig. We had hits on our 3,5, 8,& 12 color cores. No copper bites and only 1 out down bite.
