We got caught in a storm leaving the harbor this morning. The radar was showing it should blow over but it was raining hard when we put it up on plane. Happily, it did blow over just before we set lines. We set off the bank and headed north. We took a medium-size King on a 10 color core with a Yeck Merica spoon. Our starboard out down set at 60 with a pair of SS Sodas went twice early and once later down 78 . We missed the last one. Port out down set at 50 with a pair of Green Glow spoons went twice. The first time we had two fish on the same rod but lost one of them behind the boat. We took a King on the chute rigger down 80 with an 11″ White Crush DW Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly. We missed one on our starboard high Ninja Diver out 160 with an 8″ White Slick Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly.
We took one of our bigger Kings on our port low wire Ninja Diver with a 10″ Kevin’s Girlfriend/Pickled Sunshine DW Meat Rig. We lost a bigger fish on our port low wire out 220 with a 10″ Closer Spin Doctor/Red Meat Rig. All our diver bites came early. We took a Coho on a 300 copper with a Gold Fireball. Took a small King on a 10 color with a Raspberry Carbon spoon. About half past 8:00 the wind picked up and switched to the west. The temperature dropped and fog rolled in. We had their 10 fish and decided it would be a good time to head in. It was a fun trip for these first time Lake Michigan anglers.
We use and recommend Nova Tackle Deep Water Series Trolling Rods, Dreamweaver Premium Meat Strips, Ninja Boards & Divers, and Magnum MeatlZ Downriggers & Copper.
