The Ludington Offshore Classic is over, back to charter fishing tomorrow. We had a good catch for the Ruboy Thursday event. Our five fish catch weighed 62.8 lbs., getting us a third place finish and a $700.00 check. We had a tough day on Friday for the Bud Lite Ladies Classic. We fished offshore in the same area as we fished on Thursday. The rules for this event only allow a team to fish nine rods and weigh 5 fish. Our ladies team did a good job with the fish we had on but we came up short and only caught 4 fish to weigh in. On Saturday day 1 of the Pro/Am event we didn’t have a lot of confidence in our offshore spot so we took a gamble and ran way south looking for big Kings. The gamble paid off. We found some nice Kings but had a tough time landing them. The rules allow a team to weigh a maximum of 9 Kings. We only landed 8 but our day one weight was 98.2 lbs, putting us in 5th place for the day. Our hot set up was a high wire diver out 130 feet with a 10″ White Crush Mountain Dew Spin Doctor/Cold Steel Big Water Meat Rig baited with an Erie Dearie Herring Strip. We caught a 20 lb King on that rig winning us 8th place, $100 and a $200 gift certificate from Big Jon Sports in the Big Fish Contest. We ran back to the same spot on day two but the fish were gone. We took one Laker and one King and missed another King. We pulled lines and ran back north to fish at Little Point Sable. We had 6 bites there landing four fish. Three of our 6 hits were on a Dreamweaver SS Magic Man spoon off a 5-color core. We only weighed 6 fish on day two and that dropped us down to 14th in the standings. It was disappointing to say the least that those big fish moved out of our spot, but fish do swim, and they swam some place else. We thought the whole tournament was very well run. Thank you tournament committee, event sponsors and congratulations to Pro Division winner team Flat Out and Am Division Winner Lake Effect 2.
