We have been fishing doubles the last three days and I haven’t had time to get my reports out. These are pictures from our last seven trips. We have been basically fishing the same area and doing pretty much same thing each day. We’ve been
setting up off the bank between the 01’s & 02’s in approximately 90 to 100 FOW and trolling north moving in or out depending how the picture looked on our graph. We’ve been marking bait and fish each day and have been getting an early morning bite. We haven’t always had a good hook up percentage, but we’ve been getting bites. Our hot rods continue to be our wire divers with 10″ Spin Doctors & Big Water Meat Rigs.
A Glow Blade Blue Bubble/Blue Moo, White Crush Mountain Dew/Cold Steel on the highs and Show Time/Moo Moo, Dark Green White Crush/Moo Moo on the lows.
We vary the lengths depending on the water temp.
The highs are usually out 110 to 145 and the lows 80 to 100 feet. Our riggers have been set between 45 & 70 feet and we’ve been using 5, 7, 8 & 10 color cores. Friday we boated a master angler 27.8 lb. King caught on a regular size Dreamweaver Beefeater on an out down set at 50 feet. It was our first fish of the morning and had us tied up for at least 30 minutes. We knew it was big by the way it fought, but we had no idea it was that large. That’s the biggest fish we have landed in several years. We have caught several fish over 20 lbs over the last seven trips. We’ve been using plugs and spoons on our cores. One morning the spoons will be hot, the next morning it will be the plugs.
Today It was the plugs. Our best plug has been the Dreamweaver Captains Choice Green Black Ladderback Cut Plug. In the afternoons we’ve been setting up some where in the 02’s in 250 FOW and trolling northwest. We take it to the 04’s and then bring it in off the bank. Overall the fishing hasn’t been bad, but we still aren’t seeing the fish we usually do this time of year but they are running bigger than usual. All this cold water has the fish scattered. Some boats are fishing the skinny water and will do well one day and then not so well the next. Same with the deep water, good one day not so good the next. The wind is supposed to blow out of the north tonight so things will change again. What to do? Go fishing!
