Good fishing again today. No doubles or triples but the action was steady. After losing the first 2 fish our crew didn’t lose another one that hooked up. We fished south of Ludington between 70 and 90 feet of water. Our wire divers fished on or near the bottom were once again our hot rods. We took 2 fish on a rigger with a set of silver cow bells and a blue & silver Spin-N-Glo. Three fish came on a high wire diver with a chrome dodger/yellow Spin-N-Glo. The rest of our catch came on 8″ Chrome Spin Doctors with either a Spin-N-Glo or a Dreamweaver WhirlGig. I’m really likening the WhirlyGig. It seems to ride just a little higher than a Spin-N-Glo and doesn’t get as weeded up as they do.

We had a fun time today participating in the 2nd annual Fish On for Freedom event for veterans. Our five vets were all from Vietnam Veterans Of America Chapter 528 in Plymouth Michigan. We set up in 95 feet of water south of Ludington harbor. It was slow going for the first couple hours – no bites -no fish. We kept trolling south and finally found the fish. Our hot rods were our wire divers fished on or near the bottom. Eight inch Chrome Spin Doctors trailed by Spin-N-Glos and Dreamweaver’s new WhirlyGigs were the hot ticket today. We took 3 Lakers on dodgers and Spin-N-Glos. The Vets did a great landing the fish. We only lost a couple that were hooked up. The picture of them on the dock shows 13 fish, but we caught 14. There was a little confusion when the picture was taken and 1 of our big fish got left out of the pic. At the awards ceremony all 31 boats weighed their heaviest 3 fish. Our 3 fish total weight was 45.15 lbs. That was good for 1st place. We took 2nd place in the big fish division. Our biggest trout weighed 17 lbs. even. It got beat out by a 17.1 lb. Laker. The event was well run and a good time was had by all. We are already looking forward to participating again next year.
