Had to cancel my trip last Sunday due to rough seas. It was pretty calm today as we headed southwest out of Ludington Harbor and set up in 120 feet of water (fow). We put it on a 240 troll and started setting lines. Took a decent King 45 down on a magnum DW Green Skinny Jeans on an out down. As soon as we boated it we hit one on a high wire diver out 150 on a 10″ Chrome Killer Spin Doctor/Green UV Big Water Meat Rig. It was a bigger fish and it got away. The other out down went with a pair of blue glow spoons and we had a hit on the chute rigger down 70 with a 11″ White Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly. We missed them both. After that early action it was slow going. We trolled out to the 40 line and would hit a fish just often enough to keep us going. We took the Steelhead pictured above right on a Yeck Fireball on a 3 color core in the 38’s. The King pictured above left took a SS Wrecking Ball on a 7 color core. That spoon went 3 times. The surface temp was 48 degrees and it was the same down 50 feet. We kept on an out troll hoping to hit colder water and a big break, we never did. Other baits that took bites or fish were a low wire out 130 with a 10″ Kevorkian Spin Doctor/UV On Ice Big Water Rig, a rigger down 50 with a pair of Super Slim Mixed Veggies, a full core with a mag Fuzzy Bear Ally Cat, and a SS Magic Man on a 5 color core. The chute rigger with the 11″ White Crush Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly went twice and so did the Fireball on the 3 color core.

It was a tough bite today for us. We started out in front of the project in 60 feet of water (fow) hoping to find the Lake Trout and Salmon that were there before the high winds we’ve had the last couple days. We took a good size trout 58 down on the chute rigger with a Tin Can Dodger/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly. The further south we trolled the colder the water got. We worked out as far as 85 feet and in to 45 feet and never had another bite. I talked to a captain who was fishing up north between the Bath House and Point and they had hit a couple Kings. We pulled lines, ran north, and set up in 70 fow in the 02’s. We took a trout on a high wire diver with a 8″ Kevin’s Girlfriend/Angel P Strong Fly. We trolled to the 04’s without any more bites. We turned back south and took the King pictured above left on a 11″ Dreamweaver White Crush Paddle/Mirage Fly 80 down on the chute rigger. We had a couple draggers on our cores when we pulled lines. We marked fish and some bait up there and hope to get’em going on our Sunday trip.
