Tough fishing up north the last two mornings. Bites have been hard to come by. The water was very warm yesterday, 73 degrees down 120 ft., and not much cooler today. All our fish came deep. Our last fish yesterday came 180 down on the chute rigger on Tin Can Dodger/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly. We took another King on an out down set at 170 ft. with an 11″ White Crush Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly. We had 6 bites yesterday and got all 6. Today we again had 6 bites and got 4 of them. Our crew didn’t lose any. The 2 we missed didn’t hook up. Today we took a King on a high wire diver out 240 with a 10″ Blue Bubble Spin Doctor/Blue Fairways Strong Fly and another King on a high wire out 260 with a 10″ Black Crush Spin Doctor/Blue Fairways Strong Fly. We missed one on a low wire diver out 213 with a 10″ Blue Bubble Spin Doctor/Cold Steel Big Water Tackle Meat Rig and took our biggest King on the other low wire out 275 with a 10″ Blue Bubble Spin Doctor/Blue Fairways Strong Fly. We took another King on a 450 copper with an 11″ Black White Crush Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly. We are hoping the northwest wind will cool the water and improve the fishing. Had a hardy crew this morning. The waves were pretty big when we started the trip and were building all morning. Our first 2 bites came in the dark. Both were on a 8″ White Crush Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly on an out down set at 70 ft. It went 2 more time later in the morning. Once again our hot rig was the 10″ Blue Bubble Spin Doctor/Blue Fairways Strong Fly. We had them on both high wire divers and one low wire diver. The high wires were out 190 and 200 ft. and the low was out 150. They all went several times. We had the same rig on a 300 copper except it was a glow blade and it took a big King. Only 1 plug bite and it was a Blue Splatter Back Dreamweaver Captains Choice Cut Plug on a 300 copper. Our only meat bite came on a 225 copper with a 10″ Chrome UV Crush Yellow Dot Spin Doctor/UV On Ice Big Water Meat Rig. Our biggest King came on a 350 copper with a 8″ Green Slick Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly. This is the first trip we have really had the small Paddles working for us. You can bet we will be fishing them more in the future. We use Dreamweaver Premium Strips in all our meat rigs and Morgan’s copper on all our copper rods.
