Tough fishing for us Thursday morning. The north blow Wednesday really mixed things up. We were going to run out deep to the break we fished Monday afternoon, but we ran across a break straight out in the 35’s that looked too good to pass up. We hit a fish right away but didn’t get him. We worked that break over pretty hard and had just enough action to hold us there. Only rod that went twice was a Super Slim Steelie Stomper on a 1 color core. On our afternoon trip we headed north and fished between 150 & 300 feet of water (fow) off the Point. We had decent action and took 3 mature Kings , a Steelhead, and 2 Lakers. No rod went more than once. The surface temp was 62 degrees and it was 39 to 41 degrees down 50 feet. Took the Kings on a 7.5 color core with a #3 Chrome Redhead J-Plug. a 200 copper with a 10″ Green Sparkle Spin Doctor/Green Gasoline Dreamweaver Meat Rig , and a 10 ” Kevin’s Girlfriend Spin Doctor/Green Mile Big Water Meat Rig out 100 on a low wire diver. This morning we headed back north setting up in 120 fow south of the Point. The picture looked good on our graph, but the only action we had was a undersize Laker on a high wire diver . We headed for deeper water north of the Point and finally hit a fish in 350 fow on a 10″ Green Sparkle Spin Doctor/Green Gasoline DW Meat Rig on a 250 copper. We took another mature King on a 10″ Mountain Dew Spin Doctor/Cold Steel Big Water Meat Rig out 120 on a low wire diver. We talked to several boats that were hitting fish on blue colored baits. We put a 10″ Blue Mamba Spin Doctor/Cold Steel Big Water Rig out 150 on a high wire and it went twice. We had a 8″ Blue Killer Spin Doctor/Blue Moo Big Water Rig on a 200 copper that also went twice. Our biggest King came on a 10″ Kevin’s Girlfriend Spin Doctor/Froggie Big Water Rig on a 350 copper. We had Dreamweaver Premium Strips in all our meat rigs.
Ludington Area Fishing Reports
7-21-14 Fishing Report
We fished our afternoon trip on the Dreamweaver. Capt. Shane was kind enough to lend us his boat since mine is in the shop. We set up southwest of Ludington in the 51’s south and the 38’s west and put it on a 210 troll. It took a little bit to get used to a different boat, but we didn’t have all our rods set when we hit our first fish. It came on a free slider on an out down set at 35. We missed that one. We missed another on the chute rigger set a 45. We boated our first fish on a Slide Diver out 100 on a Super Slim Fire Ball. It was a nice Coho. We boated 4 more Coho before the trip was over. We suspect the fish we were missing on the riggers were Coho. We were running 5 boards on a side. Our most productive cores were 1 colors. We had a Super Slim Starburst on one and a SS Steelie Dan on the other. When we got out to the high 39’s the surface temp started to warm so we put it on a 150 troll. We took most of our fish from the mid 39’s in to the 38’s west and got as far south as the 47’s.
