Ludington Area Fishing Reports

Fished south again today. Lots of bites, but the fish won most of the battles.  It looked we had good hook ups and then they would get off. Had a couple nice  Kings run into our coppers, make a mess and swim away.  A high wire diver out 280 and later 300 went four times with a 10″ White Crush Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine Dreamweaver Meat Rig. Our riggers got bit the most. We had an 8″ White Crush Spin Doctor/Liquid Sunshine Action Fly on both an out down and the chute rigger each go a few times. The out down was set first at 75 and a little later at 85 feet. The chute was 100 down. We had a mag Fuzzy Bear Modified Blue Dolphin stacked 10 ft. above the main on the out down and a regular DW EVM spoon stacked 15 ft. above the main on the chute rigger. They hit the Fuzzy bear twice and the EVM once.  Our other out down had a pair of regular size Blue Skinny Jeans set 55 down early then 85 down later went 4 times. A low wire out 180 with a White Slick Big Foot/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly went twice and we didn’t get either one. We only had 2 copper bites. They came early on a 200 copper with a # 3 pink glow plug and both those got off too. We use Dreamweaver Premium Strips in all our meat rigs and Morgan’s copper on all our copper rods and Morgan’s wire on our wire rods.

We fished south today along with the majority of Ludington’s fleet. After two days of high winds we didn’t really know what to expect this morning but we were pleasantly surprised with all the action. We had all our rods set in the dark and just as it started breaking daylight an out down set at 65 ft. with a pair of Super Slim Super Breads went. It was a Coho that got off right at the back of the boat. We hit 4 more fish before we boated our first one. It was bite after bite, miss after miss for the first 30 minutes or so. There are a lot of Coho in those waters and they were eating our lunch.  We finally started putting some fish in the boat. A high wire diver out 280 with a 10″ White Slick Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine Dreamweaver Meat Rig  took 3 Kings and we lost one on it. A low wire out 125 and then 160 with a 10″ Blue Bubble Slick Spin Doctor/Ice Cold Big Water Meat Rig went twice and a low wire out 200 with a 10″ White Crush Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine DW Meat Rig took a big Laker. Our chute rigger with an 8″ White Crush Spin Doctor/Liquid Sunshine Action Fly went 5 times. The Super Breads went twice and our other out down set at 50 ft. went several times with a regular size Blue Skinny Jeans on he bottom and a Super Slim Blue Skinny Jeans free sliding above it. A # 3 pink plug went twice on a 200 copper and a Captain’s Choice Cut Plug Pinkie on a 225 copper took a big King. We had 8″ White Crush Spin Doctors/Liquid Sunshine Action Flies on both our 300 coppers and they each took fish. We missed a good fish on a 350 copper with a 10″ Green Sparkler Spin Doctor/UV On Ice Big Water Rig when we were pulling lines. We use Dreamweaver Premium Strips in all our meat rigs and Morgan’s Tackle Copper on all our copper rods and Morgan’s wire on all our wire rods.
