After the north blow yesterday the surface up north at the Point dropped to 41 degrees. We checked the Coast Watch image and saw what looked like a nice break northwest of the Point so we headed out in that direction. We found an area where the surface temp dropped form 55 degrees to 39 degrees in about a 2 mile stretch. That is where we started fishing. Our first 2 fish were smaller Steelhead on 1 color cores with a Super Slim Magic Man and a SS Steelie Stomper. We got into 39 degree water and were making a turn to head back to the warm side of the break when a mature King hit our low wire diver out 45 ft. with an 8″ Blue Bubble Spin Doctor/Blue Bubble Action Fly. We took the Lake Trout pictured left in that 39 degree water 73 ft. down on the chute rigger with a 10″ White Crush Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly. Except for about a 30 minute stretch when we made an in troll looking for a tighter break, the action was steady. The last few trips we’ve made to deep water most of our bites have came on clean birds and 1 & 2 color cores. We took a lot of hits on those rods and also had several bites on our Slide Divers. We had a Super Slim Mixed Veggie with a 60 ft. lead out 85 on a high Slide Diver that went 3 times. A Yeck Fireball with the same 60 ft. lead out 65 also went 3 times on our other high Slide Diver . Super Slim Starburst, Steelie Dan & Double Orange Pearl were good on our clean birds and short cores. A Yeck Red Laser was good on a 3 color core. Our only rigger bite was the Trout we took on the chute rigger. We took a couple fish on a Yeck Fireball on a clean bird. It was a fun trip. I just wish we didn’t have to run so far to find the good water.
