We ran our first charter this morning. It was a little chilly, but the steady action kept us warm.
Our first bite came on a 3 color core with the new Burnt Bloody Nose DW Super Slim. It was a Steelhead. Our starboard 7.5 color core took a nice King on a SS Chilly Willie. Port 3 color took a Coho on a SS Captain Gary. Port 5 color took a small King on a Fire Ball and port 7.5 color core with an orange glow spoon took 2 Kings. Had a Natural Glow Captain’s Choice Mini Cut Plug on a 5 color, but it didn’t go. We ran 3 Ninja Boards on a side. We had spoons on our out downs and was bouncing bottom with our chute rigger with a 10″ Chrome Spin Doctor/Wonder Bread Spin-N-Glo. Took 2 Trout on the chute.
No bites on our out downs. Most of our Lakers came on our wire divers running near or ticking the bottom. Our port high wire with an 8″ Lake Trout Candy Spin Doctor/Double Trouble Spin-N-Glo went several times. Starboard high wire with an 8″ Lake Trout candy Spin Doctor/Chrome UFO DW Whirly Gig was good too. Port low wire had a 10″ Chrome Spin Doctor/Wonder Bread Spin-N-Glo. Starboard low wire had an 8″ Chrome Spin Doctor/Blue Chrome Yellow Dot Spin-N-Glo.
Our port low wire had a new Size 5 Dreamweaver Ninja Diver on it. It is a slick product. It worked flawlessly. It was nice not having to hand line the fish. We will be running more of them on our next trip.
We are using new Deep Water Trolling Series wire diver and copper/lead core rods from Nova Tackle. We couldn’t be happier with the way they perform. They are well made and an excellent value. Will be trying some protype rigger rods from Nova Tackle when they become available and will report on how we like them.
The fishing is great and we have a lot of open dates this month. Give us a call at 231 425-8723 if you want to get in on some exciting spring fishing.
