We opted to fish for Kings this morning. We headed north and set up off the bank. The surface temp was 42.6. We hit a fish setting up on a 7.5 color core, it escaped. We had all our rods set when our high Ninja Diver out 140 with a mag Fuzzy Bear Soda took a rip. That one got off too. We boated our first fish on a 10 color core with a DUV Super Glow Super Bread.
The water was getting colder the further north we trolled. We took another King on a 7.5 color core with a SS Chilly Willie.
The action was a lot slower than we anticipated. We turned it out to deeper water at the Point. We made it out to 240 feet of water with no more bites. We had been in touch with another boat further north. It had been slow for them too. They did find some warmer water and started hitting fish. We were debating on whether to tuck our tail between our legs and run back toward the harbor to try for Lakers or head further north and take our chances fishing for Kings. We started pulling lines to head back south when we took a King on our high Ninja Diver out 140 with the mag Fuzzy Bear Soda. We had our lines pulled when Ged from Polecat called and said he was in a little warmer water and was hitting fish. We headed for that water and set up in 130 feet. Our boards were going out when the chute rigger down 90 with an 11″ DW White Crush Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly stacked with an SS Raspberry Carbon went.
The King took the stack. That spoon was a prototype and is no longer in production. We boated that fish and our 7.5 core with a SS Chilly Willie, 10 color with the DUV Super Bread and 250 copper with a mag Fuzzy Bear Soda all took off. We boated them all. We took a King out 140 on a low Deeper Diver with an 8″ Kevins Girlfriend/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly and our 10th King came in the high Nija Diver out 140 with the mag Fuzzy Bear Soda. We ran 3 different meat rigs, but none of them took a hit. Our best baits were the DUV Super Glow Super Bread and the mag Fuzzy Bear Soda.
Thanks to Ged on the Polecat for the call. Our crew did a good job on the rods and had fun catching those Kings.
