We set up in 100 feet of water. It was 48 down 50 feet. Only had 3 rods set when our starboard out down set at 45 with a pair of standard DW Soda spoons went. It was a big fish that put up quite a fight. We couldn’t get our boards set until we boated that King. We did boat it, but then our other out down with a pair of standard glow spoons took off.
Still couldn’t get our boards set. We were happy to land the fish, but a little bummed we didn’t get our boards in until it was full daylight. We missed a fish on the chute rigger down 55 with a Glow Black Ladderback Captain’s Choice Cut Plug. We took a King on our port high wire diver out 120 with an 8″ White Slick Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly. We had a rip on our starboard high wire out 110 with an 8″ White Slick DW Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly. Our port low wire Deeper Diver out 85 with a 10″ White Crush Green Fish Scale Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine DW Meat Rig took a King. Later in the trip the port high wire diver out 180 with a 8″ Black Slick Spin Doctor/Black Gasoline Dreamweaver Meat Rig took a nice King. We didn’t have a big morning bite.
We turned the boat southwest and made an out troll. Our starboard out down set at 85 went twice with an 8″ White Fish Scale Flip Fin Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly. The chute rigger down 75 with an 11″ White Slick Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly took a King. It went 2 more times down 100 feet. Port out down set at 90 went twice on a 2 color core with a pair of mag Spotted Blue Dolphins. Our starboard 7.5 color core went twice with a #3 Chrome Red Head J Plug. Port 7.5 went once with a Yeck Double Orange Crush and once with a Yeck Gold Fireball. Port 300 copper went once with a mag Black Green Glow spoon. It got pretty rough later in the morning. Our crew toughed it out and boated some nice fish. We use Dreamweaver Premium Strips in all our meat rigs and Morgan’s Tackle copper and wire. We pull our lead cores with Dreamweaver Ninja Boards.
