We ran a four hour shakedown trip today straight out of Ludington harbor setting up in 50 feet of water and trolling south. Our primary target was Lake Trout. The surface temp was 41 degrees and 40 feet down our Fish Hawk read 40 degrees. We hit a nice fish on a high wire diver just off the bottom on an 8″ Lake Trout Candy Spin Doctor/Chrome Blue Glow Wing WhirlyGig. It was on for a while but broke off at the hook. Thats what I get for using last years rig and not retying. We boated our first Laker on the other high wire diver with the same Spin Doctor and a Spin-N-Glo the same color as the WhirlyGig. The wind was out of southeast and was picking up all morning. The further south we went the colder the water got. We turned back north when the surface temp was 38 degrees. We took our last Laker in 39.8 degree water on the same high wire diver that took our 1st fish. That was the extent of our action. We ran 9 & 10 color cores on our Nija Boards. First with spoons and the with Spin Doctors and WhirlyGigs but no action on them or our riggers. It was a slow morning but the boat ran good and all our equipment worked as it should. All and all it was a successful shakedown trip.
