Slow start again this morning. First bite was 7:25 on an 8″ Kevin’s Girlfriend Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly out 250 on a high wire #4 Deeper Diver. We were fishing up north again off the shelf in 130 feet of water. The down temp was warmer, 68 degrees, at 70 feet on our Fish Hawk than yesterday. Also, the large amount of bait we saw yesterday was absent today. We made a turn back south about 2 miles north of the point and hit a double in the middle of the turn. Our 225 copper with a Broken Nose spoon and our 275 copper with a Mongolian Beef both went. We boated the one on the 225.
The fish on the 275 was gone and when we reeled in the bait it was badly bent, no paint left on it and no split ring or hook. Very disappointing to say the least. We had a mag Fuzzy Bear Orange Slice on a 250 copper that went twice with drive byes and got a couple tugs on our port high wire #4 Deeper Diver with an 8″ Black Slick Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly but no hook ups. Bites were hard to come by for us this morning. We took a small King on a low wire #5 Deeper Diver out 150 with an 8″ White Slick Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly. We lost a good fish on a 200 copper with a #4 Silver Hoard glow Balck Ladder-Back plug. We took a King on a 400 copper with a mag DW Beefeater spoon. We broke off a fish on an 11″ White Slick DW Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly down 100 on our chute rigger. We hit a triple near the end of our trip and landed all three that really saved the day.
Our low wire #5 Deeper Diver out 170 with a Stud Flip Fin DW Paddle/Green Gasoline Dreamweaver Meat Rig and our high wire #4 Deeper Diver out 270 with an 8″ Kevin’s Girlfriend Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly both went with big fish. Then a 450 copper with a mag glow spoon went too. After a long fight we boated all three.
The Lake was flat calm, and it was beautiful out there again today. We are off tomorrow and will be back out Friday morning. We use Dreamweaver Premium Strips in all our meat rigs and Morgan’s Tackle copper and wire in all our meat rigs.
