After a few weather cancellations we finally ran our first 2021 charter. We fished south of Ludington today between 55 and 65 feet of water. The wind was blowing pretty hard from the south so we set up for a down wind troll. Windfinder had the waves at 4.3 ft. at 8:00 a.m. We were hoping yesterdays big blow didn’t affect the bite. Not many fishing marking on our sonar unit but we hit fish right away. We took 2 Lakers on our starboard high & low divers before all our lines were set. Our best rods were our wire divers fished on or near the bottom. Ten of our fifteen fish came on them. All four of them were good, but our 8″ Gold Spin Doctors with White Red Dot WhirlyGigs and White Pink Dot Spin-N-Glos took the most fish. We only had the chute rigger bouncing bottom. It took our last Trout on the 8″ Gold Spin Doctor/White Red Dot WhirlyGig. Our other two riggers had spoons on them and they never went. We had 3, 5, & 7.5 color cores out. We took a Laker and a Steelhead on the 5 color with a Super Slim Modified Carmel Dolphin and another Laker on the 7.5 color with a mag Fuzzy Bear Carmel Dolphin. We took a few fish on our up troll, but the down wind was definitely the best.
