It was foggy and choppy when we left Ludington Harbor this morning heading north for a 5-hour trip. The wind was from the northwest. The further north we went the rougher it got. By the time we set down off the shelf by the bath house it was real rough. Had a hard time trying to get on a north troll. We ended up having to put both sea bags in and both engines in gear so the auto pilot would hold. First mate Seth was setting his third rod when a high wire deeper diver out 175 with an 8″ Kevin’s Girlfriend Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly fired. We had a hardy 11 year old from Missouri on the rod and he landed his first King Salmon. The chute rigger went when at 67 ft. when we were letting down with a 11″ Kevin’s Girlfriend DW Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly. Another good King in the boat. We lost one on a 7.5 color core with a Super Slim Spotted Magic Man and took one later in the morning on it. Our starboard out down set at 65 went twice with a pair of regular DW UV Beefeater spoons. Both times the fish hit the slider. We took a King on that same bait on a 10 color core. We had a pair of Green Skinny Jeans on the port out down set at 55 that didn’t go. So we put a pair of DW Spotted UV Green Dolphins on it later in the trip and it went once but we missed it. The SS Spotted Magic Man on a 7.5 or 5 color core has been good to us all season. It comes out of the package with an orange sticker on the back. Ours came off but we are still catching fish on it. We use Dreamweaver Premium Strips in all our meat rigs and Morgans Tackle copper and wire. The baits pictured below were our top producers today.
