We have been fishing out deep the last few days. It was a little rough out there today, but our crew held up and were rewarded with a good catch. We fished between 180 and 420 feet of water (fow) south west of Ludington. Todays catch was mostly Coho salmon and Steelhead with a big Lake Trout thrown in. We’ve caught two big Lakers the last two days. The one pictured right hit a regular size Fuzzy Bear Modified Blue Dolphin 60 down on our chute rigger.
The majority of our fish are hitting our cores, coppers and divers. We have been running 1 seven, 2 eight & 2 ten color cores and 2 150 and 2 200 coppers. We’ve been running a high & low wire diver on each side. Our riggers have been at 40 and 50 on the out downs and 60 on the chute. We’ve had a Yeck Fireball out 150 ft. on one high and a regular Dreamweaver Beefeater out 130 on the other. We have 10″ Spin Doctors and Big Water Meat Rigs on our low wires. Today the 10″ Glow Blade Spin Doctor/Blue UV Big Water Meat Rig out 95 took a couple nice fish. Last night on our afternoon trip we took a 23.45 lb. King (pictured below left) on a 8″ UV Lizard Spin Doctor/Green UV Big Water Rig on a 200 copper . We had another big King hit the same rig , but that one got away.
A regular Fuzzy Bear Hot Rod spoon on a 10 color core has been good and so has a regular DW Beefeater. Our best 150 copper bait has been a regular Fuzzy Bear Yellowtail spoon and a mag size Fuzzy Bear NBK has been good on a 200 copper. The action has been good out there, but the fish can be hard to get in the boat. Those Coho have been wild. I’ve heard reports of some big Kings being caught between 60 and 120 fow between the harbor and the project. The bite has been early and doesn’t last long.
