We had a half day 1 man trip this morning. We headed up north and set up off the bank. Surface temp was 53.3 degrees, and it was 43 down 50 feet. We hit a fish on a 3 color core with a Double Orange Crush before all our lines were set. It was a nice Steelhead.
Our port out down went with a pair of SS Sodas. Took a King on that. We took another King on the chute rigger down 65 with an 11″ White Slick Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly stacked with an SS Half Hulk 20 feet above the Paddle. The fish took the stack. A little later the Paddle went with a big fish, but it escaped.
We missed a fish and took a fish on our starboard 5 color with a Gold Yeck Fireball. We had a throwback King on our port 7.5 color core with a Steelie Ranger. Missed a fish on the starboard 7.5 with an SS Chilly Willie. It was early and we had 5 keeper fish, so we pulled lines and went south to see if we could find some Lake Trout. We took 1 on a high wire Ninja Diver ticking bottom with an 8″ Lake Trout Candy Spin Doctor/Green Spin-N-Glo. Our chute rigger bouncing bottom with an 8″ UV Spin Doctor/Chrome Blue Spin-N-Glo took our second Laker.
We hit one on our starboard low wire Ninja Diver with an 8″ Chrome Spin Doctor/Fire Tiger Whirly Gig. It got off right behind the boat. We hit 3 more on our divers and didn’t any of them. It was a fun trip and the captain got to take home some fish.
We use and recommend Nova Tackle Deep Water Series, Dreamweaver Ninja Boards and Divers, and Magnum MetalZ down riggers.
