Ludington Area Fishing Reports

We set up in 110 feet of water. Lots of boat traffic. Surface temp was 72. It was 52 down 50 feet. For several days now our first rod to go has been our starboard out down set at 65 ft. with a pair of standard Dreamweaver Green Hulks. Today was no different. We boated a nice King on the free slider. Early action was good. Couldn’t get a board set on the starboard side until 7:30. Our wire divers were hot. A high wire out 210 with a 10″ Kevin’s Girlfriend/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly went 7 or 8 times. It took our last fish, a big King, when we were pulling lines. Starboard low wire Deeper Diver out 145 with a 10 ” White Slick Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine Dreamweaver Meat Rig went 4 times early. Port high wire diver out 180 with a 10 ” Black Slick Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly was good. Port low wire Deeper Diver out 130 then later at 140 with a 10″ White Crush/Green Fish Scale Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine DW Meat Rig took fish. Our chute rigger with an 11″ White Slick DW Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly down 85 stacked with a DW Green Hulk didn’t go. We pulled it and it had a 8 lb. King riding on the Paddle and a small King on the stack. We boated them both. We still changed it to a 10″ White Slick Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine DW Meat Rig. It went twice. A 300 copper with an 8″ Kevin’s Girlfriend Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine DW Meat Rig took a big rip. One of First Mate Abe’s favorite late morning rigs is an 8″ Black Slick Spin Doctor/Black Gasoline Meat Rig: pictured below. He runs it on a high wire diver or a long copper. Today it was on a 375 copper, and it took our second biggest King. It got rough mid-morning, but our crew held up and boated some big fish. We use Dreamweaver Premium Strips in all our meat rigs and Morgan’s Tackle copper and wire. We pull our coppers and lead cores with Dreamweaver Ninja Boards.

It wasn’t as rough as we expected when we set up in 130 feet of water. The surface temp was 72. It was 51 degrees 50 feet down on our Fish Hawk. The picture on our graph did not look good. The screen was clean and stayed that way for a while. We finished setting all our rods and no bites. We put it on an out troll and finally took a fish on our starboard out down set at 65 with a pair of standard size Dreamweaver Green Hulks. We had one free sliding above he main bait. Those spoons took at least 5 fish for us today and we missed at least 3 more. Our biggest King came on the Hulk main bait. It hit on the starboard side and ran across all our port side coppers. We had a mess but boated the 23 lb. King. Only one bite on our chute rigger set at 70 with an 11″ White Slick Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly. It took 1 of our 7 Steelhead. Our port out down was set at 70 with a pair of Green Glow spoons. They went several times and took our second biggest King. Our best diver was a high wire out 200 with a 10″ Black Slick Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly. Our port low wire Deeper Diver out 110 with a 10″ White Crush Green Fish Scale Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine DW meat rig went twice. Our only diver bite on the starboard side was on a 10″ Kevin’s Girlfriend Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine Action fly out 200. We took a King and a Steelhead on a 200 copper with a DW Rasta Goose. We took fish on our 225, 250, 300 & 325 copers. It got rough out there. Our crew stuck it out through a rainstorm and big waves and were rewarded with lots of action and a real nice catch. We use Dreamweaver Premium Strips in all our meat rigs and Morgan’s Tackle copper and wire. We pull our coppers and lead cores behind Dreamweaver Ninja Boards.
