Free Style Charters Ludington Fishing Reports

We were happy the weatherman was wrong about the wind and waves this morning. We set up off the bank. Surface temp was 62 and it was 43.2 down 50 feet on our Fish Hawk. Took a King right away on the starboard 5 color core with an SS Burnt Bloody Nose. Our coppers and cores took a good portion of our catch. Port 5 color, 1 time with an SS Soda, 1 time with an SS Rodman. Starboard 7.5 core 3 times with an SS Wonder Veggie, picture below. Starboard 10 color 1 time with an SS Wonder Bomb, 1 time with an SS Rasta Goose. Port 10 color 1 time with a DW Hot Tamale. Starboard 225 copper 4 times with a Merica spoon. Port high wire Ninja Diver out 180 with an 8″ Chrome Two Face Spin Doctor/Black Gasoline DW Meat Rig took a Steelhead, pictured below. Port low wire diver out 110 went 3 times with a 10″ White Slick Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine Dreamweaver Meat Rig. We didn’t boat any of them. Our chute rigger with an 11″ Black Slick DW Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly and an SS Green Hulk stacked 20 ft. above the Paddle went 4 times down 80 ft., 1 time on the stack, 3 times on the Paddle. Our crew did a good job holding up in the less-than-ideal conditions.

Because of the cold water north yesterday we opted to go straight out of Ludington harbor this morning. We set up off the crown. It was 49 degrees down 50 feet. All rods were set before we hit our 1st fish. It was a King that hit our port low wire diver out 100 with a 10″ White Crush Green Scale Spin Doctor/Pickled Sunshine DW Meat Rig. Our port out down set at 45 ft. with a pair of SS Half Wonder Breads went next and doubled us up. The King took the free slider. The chute rigger went with a 10″ White Slick DW Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly stacked with a SS Half Green Hulk. The fish took the main bait but got off. We swapped out the Paddle for a 10″ Lake Trout Candy Spin Doctor/Mountain Dew Whirly Gig. It took a good size Trout off the bottom. We rode for a while before we turned and trolled north. We took a King 50 down on our starboard out down with a Charlie Special spoon. We just set it and reached back to get the slider when it popped. We took a Lake Trout on our chute rigger down 130 with an 8″ Charlie Special Flip Fin Paddle/Pickled Sunshine Action Fly. Our last fish was nice Steelhead that took a Yeck Goat spoon on a 5-color core. It put on a show for us making several jumps. Our first time Lake Michigan Angler’s had a beautiful morning and a fun trip.
